Soup That Can Make You Younger

Who doesn’t want to look and feel younger while enjoying foods they love? Dr. Michael Roizen’s Classic Split Pea Soup, from his book Cooking the RealAge Way, is delicious and can make your RealAge 7.3 days younger!

I Love Dr. Roizen’s concept and his recipes! By following some of his recommendations, one can take years off one’s biological age.

My whole family enjoyed this delicious recipe.

Classic Split Pea Soup
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Makes 4 servings
Cooking time: 45 minutes to 2 hours
Nutrition: 310 calories per serving, 3% from fat

Ingredients

  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 large carrot
  • 2 cups green or yellow split peas
  • 6 1⁄2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon chile-garlic paste or purée
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Preparation
Finely chop onion and carrot. Combine all ingredients and simmer covered on low heat for 1 hour, or until peas are tender and soup thickens.

Tips: Simple is sometimes better—if the vegetables are of the highest quality, you’ll taste it in this recipe. To add richness (and protein), use chicken stock instead of water, and top with crumbled feta and/or toasted pistachios.
