Patricia Surprises Her Publicist, and Other Good News

Working as a book publicist gives me access to some of the most talented and persuasive writers out there. Every now and then, an author takes me by surprise with remarkable insight into his or her craft—and this was certainly the case when I read Patricia Wells’ essay for Publishers Weekly this week.

Not only does she share some fun facts about her life (she almost became a nun!), but Patricia also gets into the “meat” of her career. Reading about her dedication to journalism and how that inspired her to be a cookbook author reinforced my belief that writing about food is so much more than perfecting recipes—it’s about combining the ingredients with a level of passion and artistry that not only increases readers’ appetites, but also reminds us why it’s so important to gather around the table every night.
